This memorial site was created in memory of, Logan Bennett, who was born on May 14, 1986 and died tragically on January 28, 2004.
Logan was 17 years and eight months old when he and three other boys aged between 15 and 17 died in a car accident on Te Irirangi Drive, Botany, Auckland.
There was no alcohol or drugs involved, just speed and an inexperienced, and unlicensed driver.
Logan had a dream to fulfil.
Born in Invercargill, at age six his family moved to New Plymouth and a couple of years later to Browns Bay, Auckland. In 2000 his family moved to East Auckland.
Logan’s true love was basketball. He played for the North Harbour representative team in 1998 and 1999 and later, the Counties Manukau under 18 team as well as the Howick College and Shelton Blazers 2nd division teams. He was also the stats person most Saturday nights for the Breakers who are part of the Australian NBL.
Aside from basketball he held many positions in his church. A week before the accident he expressed to his Bishop his desire to serve for two years as a missionary.
Like all young men he loved his music and he loved his family. Logan is still sadly missed by all his family and his many, many friends.
Logan’s message to you:
Think twice before you decide to go racing, or perhaps take someone else’s life. Don’t be foolish as we were because too many other people are left behind who suffer. Enjoy your life, but be careful and make the right choices.
Logan's legacy
For someone who had such a short life Logan left a big legacy.
As a result of the accident which affected a large number of the local community an organisation called MISSD (Mothers in Support of Safer Driving) was formed.
